Hutchence Documentary Due Late 2017
A film-length documentary about the late INXS singer Michael Hutchence will air in U.S. cinemas at the end of 2017 – 20 years after he was found dead in a Sydney hotel room. North American distribution rights are handled by CAA, as well as worldwide deals originating in North America.
The still-untitled project is produced by INXS’s label, Universal Music Group, and Passion Pictures, which was behind “Looking For Sugar Man” about Rodriguez.
INXS creative manager Christopher Murphy confirmed that proceeds will go to Tiger Lily Hutchence, his daughter with the late British TV presenter Paula Yates. Murphy returned to the INXS camp in 2008 after a decade away and set about bringing the band’s music into the spotlight.
These included tribute albums, global sync deals and a two-part series on INXS called “Never Tear Us Apart” that attracted high ratings in Australia and screened in the United States on Showtime. Murphy is also working on an INXS musical for Broadway. The Hutchence documentary will be directed by Australian filmmaker Richard Lowenstein, who helmed many INXS videos and cast Hutchence in his cult movie, “Dogs In Space.”
