Electronic Music Conference Returns To Sydney

The Asia Pacific’s Electronic Music Conference (EMC) returns to Sydney for its fifth edition Nov. 28 to Dec. 2.

Organisers expect 2,000 Australian and international visitors to gather at the Ivy complex. Last year, the meet’s two-day conference grew to 180 speakers across more than 40 keynotes, panels and masterclasses. The showcases featured 25 performances. This year, organisers have included the Inthemix Awards as part of week-long activities for Dec. 1. The awards, set up in 2003 by the electronic dance music InTheMix site, draw 120,000 public votes each year for favourite DJ, event and club night, and a further 750 votes for specialised industry categories.

Previous winners include Flume, Peking Duk, Flight Facilities, The Presets and Golden Features. The EMC is supported by the New South Wales government through its events and tourism arm, Destination NSW. The 2016 meet includes the music industry charity five-a-side football tournament Musica Copa. EMC founder Neil Ackland says this year will feature new sessions and extended events to discuss the innovations and successes of electronic music in 2016 and beyond.
