Beatport Ends Services, Auction

Beatport, the electronic music online store and streaming service owned by bankrupt SFX Entertainment, has shut down its music and video streaming, events platform and mobile app, and suspended its auction, the company announced May 10.

“In our effort to be so many different things, we lost focus on bringing the best possible service and capabilities to our most loyal customers: the DJ community. As such, we have determined to invest in what is most important to our business and our customers, rather than adding yet another choice to a sea of streaming services,” the company posted to its website.

The services are to shut down May 13. While the auction is suspended, Beatport says it continues to entertain offers. The company says it will “refocus our attention and resources on our flagship business, the Beatport store.”

SFX petitioned a Delaware bankruptcy court in February to allow it to auction off Beatport in April or May. Bids were to be submitted by April 25, but the court extended that deadline to May 3. With the auction suspension and shutdown of much of Beatport’s functionality, pink slips are almost certainly in the offing as offices are closed in the U.S. and Europe. Beatport statement:
