Jill Scott Is Every ‘Woman’
It’s been 16 years since Scott released her debut, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1. Since then the Philadelphia native has won three Grammy Awards and dropped her fifth album, Woman, last year via Atlantic Records. Her style is smooth and soulful with insightfully honest lyrics.
Scott discussed on her website her formula for songwriting and how she provides a voice for many women: “I put myself in each woman’s place … and found that it became more about me, all of it, with the envy, the anger, the frustration, the loneliness, the joy, the passion and the rapture. And that’s what makes it juicy …”
