Drone Shows To Light Skies

Maybe drones can be used for live music productions after all: A Japanese company is synchronizing small fleets of drones with lighting and audio effects to advertise and dazzle audiences.

MicroAd, an advertising company mainly operating in Japan, announced a form of entertainment, called Sky Magic, using the flying machines to create a modern light show April 20. Demonstration performances have already been provided outdoors at Mt. Fuji to live music using traditional Japanese shamisens and at a company press conference indoors.

The company hopes to use the technology to popularize a new style of entertainment, and to advertise brands and products to large audiences.

Sky Magic is currently headed by creative director Tsuyoshi Takashiro, the Tokyo-born filmmaker and author whose work explores ideas of technology in the future.
