Jenny Lewis Adds ‘Rabbit Fur Coat’ Dates

The anniversary celebration of Jenny Lewis“Rabbit Fur Coat” continues in September. The Watson Twins are on board for the new batch of gigs, which includes Milwaukee, Chicago, Toronto and San Francisco.

Released in January 2006, Rabbit Fur Coat marked Lewis’ solo debut. The former Rilo Kiley frontwoman was joined on the album by The Wastson Twins, an alt-country duo made up of identical twin sisters Chandra and Leigh Watson.

Lewis talked to Rolling Stone about collaborating with the twins on the album, along with Conor Oberst, Ben Gibbard and M. Ward.

“Well, the Watson Twins were living in Silver Lake at the time, a couple blocks from my apartment,” Lewis told RS. “They were friends with Blake Sennett of Rilo Kiley, and they actually sang on a really early Rilo Kiley B-side. We didn’t hang out all the time, but as I started piecing the songs together for the record, I was referencing this Laura Nyro record with the Labelle sisters, Gonna Take a Miracle – it was one of my favorite records growing up. I used that as a template and reached out to the twins with that record in mind. I didn’t really have a plan, I just went over to their place, played them my songs and it was just meant to be. We practiced a couple of times and recorded for a day. I brought Mike Mogis out from Nebraska to record me in L.A. I had made two Rilo Kiley records with Mike at that point. We were like, ‘Whoa, this album is really different.’ It was really special.”

Rabbit Fur Coat got the anniversary treatment this January with the release of a limited remastered vinyl edition, including all-new gatefold packaging, red vinyl, a download code and never-before-seen photos by Autumn de Wilde. After playing a handful of shows earlier this year in honor of the LP’s 10th year, Lewis and The Watson Twins will team up once again. But first Lewis has a run of solo dates planned, as well as performances lined up with her new project, Nice As F***. Lewis is continuing to support her acclaimed 2014 album, The Voyager.
