Rodrigo Amarante On The Road

Following a quick trip to the East Coast in February, Brazilian singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rodrigo Amarante will be bringing his heartfelt music back to the States in June. The excursion includes gigs in San Francisco, Chicago and New York.

Ahead of the outing, which kicks off at San Francisco’s The Chapel June 8, Amarante will appear with Devendra Banhart in Minneapolis May 14. The two artists joined forces in 2007 when Amarante came to the U.S. to play in Banhart’s band. His PR rep notes that Banhart had already established himself as a “national hero in Brazil for his work in iconic Brazilian band Los Hermanos.”

Amarante’s other projects include Little Joy, featuring The Strokes’ Fabrizio Moretti and Binki Shaprio. He released his debut solo album, Cavalo, in 2014.

Amarante stopped by NPR to play a handful of tracks, including “The Ribbon” and “I’m Ready,” for a Tiny Desk Concert.

NPR’s Bob Boilen calls Cavalo 2014’s “tenderest record.” Boilen adds, “Cavalo is sonically rich and spare at the same time: Every instrument breathes and every sound blends, yet every moment is distinct. At Cavalo‘s core are heartfelt songs and Amarante’s sweet, smoky voice.”
