Breaking: Coachella, Stagecoach Officially Canceled For 2020

Riverside County public health officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser confirmed today that Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach: California’s Country Music Festival are officially being canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am concerned as indications grow that COVID-19 could worsen in the fall,” Kaiser said in a statement. “In addition, events like Coachella and Stagecoach would fall under Governor Newsom’s Stage 4, which he has previously stated would require treatments or a vaccine to enter. Given the projected circumstances and potential, I would not be comfortable moving forward.” 
“These decisions are not taken lightly with the knowledge that many people will be impacted. My first priority is the health of the community.”
Rumors have been buzzing for weeks about Goldenvoice reaching out to artists to see if the lineup could be moved into 2021, and news recently broke that organizers Goldenvoice / AEG Presents are still considering a scaled-down version in April or a full version in October.
Coachella’s postponement was a signal moment in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S., coming after Ultra Music Festival and SXSW both effectively canceled days before showtime. After Coachella announced its postponement to October, many other mega festivals, notably, Bonnaroo and Electric Daisy Carnival, followed suite. 
Lollapalooza was also recently called off by the city of Chicago. 
Coachella brings a massive radius clause and is a huge anchor date for virtually every act on the bill, so the movement of such a major event may have major implications for agents, venues, artists and other festivals throughout the industry.
