Pollstar Live! One-on-One Series Continues With Dayglo Presents Founder Peter Shapiro
– Shapiro Speaks
Peter Shapiro will connect with Pollstar on Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET for the second installment of the new Pollstar Live! One-on-One video series.
Pollstar Live! One-On-One, Pollstar‘s new series of streaming interviews with key figures in the live entertainment industry, continues Wednesday with an interview with Dayglo Presents founder Peter Shapiro.
Among the most influential figures in live music, Shapiro owns and operates Brooklyn Bowl – the family of nightclubs with a New York City flagship and branches in Las Vegas and Nashville – as well as the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y.
Shapiro famously orchestrated the Grateful Dead’s five “Fare Thee Well” shows in 2015, which grossed an astronomical $52.2 million, and he created Lockn’, the jam-heavy festival held in Arrington, Va., since 2013.
“He’s got the right vision for keeping the music going forward,” guitarist Warren Haynes said in Pollstar’s August 2019 cover story about Shapiro and Lockn’. “He honors the history, but he also wants to see it go somewhere it’s never been before – and I think that’s great.”
Shapiro will connect with Pollstar on Earth Day, an auspicious date for the promoter, who organized the multi-location Green Apple Music & Arts Festival from 2006 to 2008 and staged concerts celebrating the holiday on Washington, D.C.’s National Mall in 2010 and 2015.
“I don’t think we’re going to transform the world simply by putting on an Earth Day concert, but we have to do our best to be a part of the transformation, each of us,” Shapiro says in Pollstar‘s new Earth Day cover story. “I have felt a need to do what I can to bring my relationships to help the cause, which is what I was able to do for Earth Day on the National Mall in the past, with The Roots, Sting, Bob Weir, The Flaming Lips.”
He remains active for the cause: Shapiro is currently assembling “Sing! For The Lorax,” a multimedia project where several noteworthy musicians will set passages of Dr. Seuss’ 1971 environmentally-minded book “The Lorax” to music.
Shapiro’s Pollstar Live! One-on-One interview will stream via Pollstar‘s Facebook on Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET.
