Fountains Of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger Hospitalized With COVID-19

Fountains of Wayne co-founder Adam Schlesinger has been hospitalized with COIVID-19, according to a statement from his family.

Rumors had circulated that the singer and songwriter, who has won an Emmy for his work on “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” was in a coma; however, Variety has confirmed with Schlesinger’s attorney that is not the case.

He is on a ventilator and sedated to facilitate recovery, attorney Josh Grier told Variety.

“He’s very sick and is heavily sedated, as are all people on ventilators, but no one has used the word ‘coma’ to me,” Grier said, adding that the highly regarded songwriter is receiving “excellent care.” Schlesinger has been hospitalized for more than a week in New York.

Bandmate Chris Collingwood tweeted a statement from Schlesinger’s family adding that “his condition is improving and we are cautiously optimistic. His family appreciates all of the love and support.”

Although Fountains of Wayne hasn’t actively toured since 2013, Schlesinger has been making a name for himself writing songs for film and TV. 

In addition to five Emmy nominations for “My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” He’s also been nominated for his work on the Tony Awards, “Sesame Street,” and a Stephen Colbert Christmas Special. He was nominated in 1997 for an Oscar and a Golden Globe award for writing the theme to the film “That Thing You Do!,” which was directed by Tom Hanks.
