Charlie Jones Unveils New Venture Four Leaf Productions
Charlie Jones, having recently announced his departure from C3 Presents – the Austin-based powerhouse he co-founded with Charles Attal and Charlie Walker, has started a new company “built on a foundation of creating live experiences that bring people together for a purpose” called Four Leaf Productions.
“I am very proud of what we created at C3. We set a higher standard both in the office and at our events. The C3 team is the best in the business,” Jones said in a statement. “My purpose going forward with Four Leaf Productions, and my valued partners, is to use our collective experiences to create live events that help build an inclusive and respectful culture in our society – one that builds bridges and shines a bright light on shared values. I’m excited about the opportunities ahead of us.”
Described as a “boutique production firm,” Four Leaf will produce combining live music and interactive discussions to entertain, enlighten and inspire fans and entire communities. The senior leadership for Four Leaf Productions – which will be based out of Austin – includes Shelley Phillips, Karly Tuckness and Courtney Fisher, who are all partners.
“Charlie Jones is one of the most genuine people I’ve met in this industry,” said Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons. “His passion for music, and especially for the experience of music fans, is obvious when you go to any event he is a part of. His integrity, honesty and discretion is what sets him apart, not just as a promoter but as a friend.”
“Charlie has a unique combination of heart and skill to bring people together to experience the collective joy that live music brings to humanity,” said Michelle Kydd Lee, Chief Innovation Officer and Partner at CAA. “I am personally excited to see what incredible projects Four Leaf will thoughtfully bring to fans and communities.”
The news that Jones was leaving C3 broke Jan. 9 through Crain’s Chicago Business, at which time C3 issued a statement saying: “Charlie Jones has chosen to pursue other interests and we support him that decision. We will miss his day-to-day presence, but he will continue to assist us as needed. We wish him great success in his next endeavors.”
All three founders of C3 Presents sat down with Ray Waddell at Pollstar Live! 2020 earlier this month to discuss their careers and Jones became emotional when speaking about leaving the company, saying: “I’m going to live by a light mantra from one of The Avett Brothers’ songs called ‘Head Full of Doubt.’ In the song it says, ‘Your life is not affected by the man that’s elected, If you’re loved by someone who you’ve never rejected. Decide what to be and go be it.’ I’m at that place in my life,” said Jones.
He also said that the new venture would be “focusing on purpose being involved with causes I care about, giving back to the community and affecting culture, paying attention to pay scale and hiring practices and elevating people.
“I want to do things that make a difference to me and make me happy.”
C3 Presents was acquired by Live Nation in 2014 and today is a major promoter of festivals (including Lollapalooza events worldwide and Austin City Limits) and concerts. The company ranked No. 29 on Pollstar’s 2019 Year End Top 100 Promoters chart, based on Worldwide Ticket Sales, with 898,648 tickets sold and $38,262,464 grossed.
