Eminem Crests 338,000 Album Units On Elite 100
The top three entries on the Elite 100 Artists chart for the week ending Jan. 23 are all riding new music releases, but Eminem was tops with the largest album unit count for a single week in 2020 so far.
Eminem reached a total of 338,900 album units after the Jan. 17 release of Music To Be Murdered By. For the week he sold 110,000 albums, sold 11,800 songs, and logged 247.5 million on-demand streams, all combining for his total album unit count (each metric is weighted differently for the chart’s formula).
Eminem has been a live titan in recent years, as he set attendance records in New Zealand, Australia, and Denmark. He also has been continuously engaged in battles over copyright use of his music, fighting with New Zealand’s National Party and The Weinstein Company.
While Eminem led the chart in song sales and on-demand streams, this week’s No. 2, Halsey, was the chart leader in album sales, with 191,600. Halsey’s latest album, Manic, propelled her to a total of 260,200 album units for the week, with 79.4 million on-demand streams and 39,900 song sales.
Halsey has become a major touring artist in her own right, regularly posting grosses above $200,000 throughout her 2018 amphitheater tour and a $504,658 gross at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., July 30, 2018. Her “Manic World Tour” is scheduled to hit North American arenas and sheds this summer.
Halsey had the second-highest total score for any week so far in 2020, and No. 3, the late Mac Miller, was the third-highest with 188,200. Miller’s family announced several weeks prior that there would be a posthumous release Jan. 17 of a companion album to Swimming that he was working on prior to his death. Titled Circles, the album was thoroughly appreciated by fans still mourning his death, as Miller logged 160.5 million on-demand streams and 67,500 album sales for the week.
Further down the list, Little Big Town is at No. 33, with 34,500 album units after the release of Nightfall. The group’s strongest metric was album sales, with 26,100, continuing to prove that country music fans do indeed still buy the album.
At No. 71, Chelsea Cutler enters the chart with 19,400 album units, mostly on the strength of 13,900 album sales and 8 million on-demand streams. Cutler released her latest project, How To Be Human, Jan. 17.
At No. 91, Stunna 4 Vegas comes in on the back of 20.8 million on-demand streams. The North Carolina-born rapper has signed onto Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment, the label of DaBaby, distributed through Interscope.
Next week’s chart will include data on new releases from Migos, Pet Shop Boys, Wolf Parade, Breaking Benjamin, Black Lips, Andy Shauf, Wire, The Lil Smokies and Joey Trap.
Also, be on the lookout for Louis Tomlinson, Lil Wayne, Krewella, Kesha, Russ, Meghan Trainor, Theory of a Deadman, K. Michelle, Drive-By Truckers, Maez, Destroyer, Ben Watt, and Dan Deacon.
