Billy Strings Announces April And May Dates Including Three-Night Ryman Run

Billy Strings added a slew of spring dates to his 2022 touring Tuesday.

The jamgrass sensation, who appeared on Pollstar‘s cover in early 2021, announced February and March touring in November, and has now added shows from coast to coast for April and early May.

The new dates begin with two shows at Southern California’s Santa Barbara Bowl, April 9-10, and include three-night runs at Florida’s St. August Amphitheatre (April 29-May 1) and Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium (May 6-8).

Other newly announced shows include gigs at Las Vegas’ Brooklyn Bowl (April 15) and Houston’s 713 Music Hall. Tickets for Strings’ just-revealed shows go on sale on January 7 at 10 a.m. CT.

Much of Strings’ February and March touring, including a four-night run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., and a three-night stand at The Sylvee in Madison, Wis., is already sold out.

Strings closed his sterling year of 2021 touring – which began by innovating pandemic-era shows and ended with him playing to the biggest crowds of his young career – on a sour note, cancelling his two-night String The Halls event at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works and his three-night New Year’s run in Grand Rapids, Mich., booked for Dec. 17-18 and Dec. 30-Jan. 1, respectively, due to COVID cases on his touring team.

But Strings’ year, which included winning Breakthrough Artist of the Pandemic at the Pollstar Awards in June, was still overwhelmingly successful. His sold-out three-night Halloween run at ExploreAsheville.com Arena in Asheville, N.C., grossed $705,747 from 17,867 tickets sold, making it Strings’ highest-grossing box office report in Pollstar’s database.

In December, Strings sold out four shows at Atlanta’s new 2,300-capacity club The Eastern.

He even had the honor of performing with Billy & The Kids, a supergroup led by Grateful Dead founding member Bill Kreutzmann and also featuring musicians from The Disco Biscuits, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and Trey Anastasio Band.

“This is what I love,” Strings told Pollstar in April. “It’s what I was made to do. It’s my entire life, it’s my entire identity. What’s been missing in my life, for sure, is playing music onstage for people.”

On the recorded side, Strings’ album Home won the Best Bluegrass Album Grammy in 2021 – and he has a chance to defend his title with his latest LP, Renewal, which is nominated in the same category this year.
