Brooklyn Made Presents To Exclusively Book New Orleans’ Civic Theatre

Brooklyn Made Presents is making its way out of the Empire State.

The nascent promoter, which launched in summer 2020, announced an expansion into the south Tuesday, by way of an exclusive booking deal with the Civic Theatre, a 1,200-capacity venue in New Orleans.

The venue, housed in the Big Easy’s oldest theater, reopened for music in 2013 and has been called “the country’s first modern historic theatre,” according to a press release. Since 2013, the Civic had been booked in partnership with AEG affiliate The Bowery Presents.

The deal was orchestrated by Brooklyn Made president and CEO Anthony Makes and Charlie Adler, the company’s senior vice president, concerts.

“We are excited to be working with The Brooklyn Made team,” said Civic Theatre owner Bryan Bailey in a statement. “Anthony Makes and I have known each other for eight years, and their approach to live music fits perfectly with the brand that we have previously established under Bowery Presents. Makes, Charlie, and the entire Civic team are on the same page about the direction of the live music scene for both the Civic and New Orleans.”

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be booking the Civic Theatre with Charlie,” Makes said in a statement. “We have been massive fans of this venue since Bryan brought it back to life in 2013. We look forward to continuing to bring the best artists to this unbelievable venue that is second to none in New Orleans.”

The Civic’s upcoming shows range from indie-rocker Mitski (Feb. 22) to the leftist podcast Chapo Trap House (March 24).

The venue’s top-grossing box office report in Pollstar’s database since its 2013 reopening is a two-night run by Neutral Milk Hotel that grossed $81,618 in February 2014.

Brooklyn Made has expanded rapidly since launching a year and a half ago, inking partnerships from ticketing platform DICE to upstate New York outdoor venue CMAC. Earlier this year, the company tapped Charlie Adler as its booking head and appointed Max MacClennen senior vice president, operations.

And, this fall, the venue opened a flagship 500-capacity club, Brooklyn Made, in Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood.

“The idea is just own and operate or manage, program, and operate awesome venues,” Makes told Pollstar sister publication VenuesNow when the new Brooklyn venue opened.
