The War On Drugs Announces North American/European 2022 Tour
John Davisson – Adam Granduciel of The War On Drugs
Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, Empire Polo Field, Indio, Calif.
The War On Drugs’ long-awaited fifth studio album now has a release date and the band has unveiled the routing for a 2022 North American / European tour.
I Don’t Live Here Anymore is due out Oct. 29 on Atlantic Records. The LP is described as “an uncommon rock album about one of our most common but daunting processes – resilience in the face of despair.” While the topic seems especially relevant to the events of 2020 and 2021, the indie rock band has been working on the album for more than three years.
The band has spent more than a dozen sessions working on the album at seven studios including time spent at New York’s Electric Lady and Los Angeles’ Sound City. The process started in early 2018, a month after winning the Grammy for Best Rock Album for 2017’s A Deeper Understanding, when award bandleader Adam Granduciel, bassist Dave Hartley, and multi-instrumentalist Anthony LaMarca went to upstate New York to jam and cut new demos.
Along with news about the album and tour the band released the official video Monday for the I Don’t Live Here Anymore album opener “Living Proof.” The video (posted below) was directed by filmmaker Emmett Malloy and features Granduciel at the historic Panoramic studio in Stinson Beach, Calif.
The War On Drugs’ 2022 tour kicks off with two nights at ACL Live in Austin, Texas, Jan. 19-20. The itinerary includes some of the largest stages they’ve ever graced including their first headline show at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The schedule also includes stops at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco, the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and two nights at the Chicago Theatre.
The artist presale starts Wednesday, July 21, followed by a Live Nation presale on Thursday. Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, July 23 at 10 a.m. local time.
Box office reports submitted to Pollstar for War On Drugs include two shows at the Fox Theater in Oakland, Calif., on Sept. 10, 2018, that sold 4,186 tickets and grossed $192,712.
The band’s next appearance is Nov. 12 in Lake Perris, Calif., at Desert Daze.
