‘Springsteen On Broadway’ To Return For Summer Run At New York’s St. James Theatre

Bruce Springsteen will stage a summer run of “Springsteen On Broadway” beginning on June 26.

“Springsteen On Broadway,” Bruce Springsteen’s Tony-winning one-man stage performance, will return for a limited run this summer, Springsteen announced Monday.

From June 26 through Sept. 4, the legendary 71-year-old rocker will reprise his “Springsteen On Broadway” performance for 30 performances. The announced shows will take place within two windows, June 26 to July 17 and Aug. 17 to Sept. 4.

The production will be staged at Manhattan’s St. James Theatre, just blocks away from the Walter Kerr Theatre, where the initial run of “Springsteen On Broadway” took place in 2017 and 2018; both venues are owned by Jujamcyn Theaters. 

“I loved doing ‘Springsteen on Broadway’ and I’m thrilled to have been asked to reprise the show as part of the reopening of Broadway,” said Springsteen in a statement.

The June 26 opening night performance of “Springsteen On Broadway” will benefit several New York and New Jersey charities, including Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Food Bank for New York City, Fulfill (Monmouth & Ocean Counties Foodbank), Long Island Cares, NJ Pandemic Relief Fund and The Actor’s Fund.

The show’s creative team includes Heather Wolensky (scenic design), Natasha Katz (lighting design) and Brian Ronan (sound design).

The initial run of “Springsteen On Broadway,” based on Springsteen’s 2016 memoir Born To Run, was a smash, selling out 236 performances from October 2017 to December 2018. The shows grossed a total of $113 million and sold more than 223,000 tickets, landing Springsteen at No. 13 on Pollstar‘s year-end worldwide touring chart in 2018.

The production’s final show took place on Dec. 15, 2018; on Dec. 14, 2018, Springsteen released a “Springsteen On Broadway” soundtrack, and on Dec. 16, 2018, a filmed version of the show appeared on Netflix.

Springsteen’s most recent E Street Band tour, “The River Tour,” which honored his 1980 double album The River, took place from January 2016 to February 2017. In 2016, the tour grossed $268.3 million, landing Springsteen atop Pollstar‘s year-end worldwide touring chart. His January and February showing alone in 2017 yielded a position of No. 54 on that year’s edition of the chart, with $38.1 million grossed.
