Elton John Postpones Texas Dates After Contracting COVID-19

performs at Mt Smart Stadium on Feb. 16, 2020, in Auckland, New Zealand.
Despite being vaccinated and boosted, Elton John has contracted COVID-19 and is postponing two farewell concert dates in Dallas.
John “is experiencing only mild symptoms,” according to a statement. “Elton and the ‘ Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour look forward to returning to the stage shortly.”
John was due to hit the American Airlines Center stage in Dallas on Jan. 25 and Jan. 26 but fans “should hold on to their tickets as they will be honored at the rescheduled dates to be announced soon.”
John’s rescheduled 2020 North American tour kicked off on Jan. 19 in New Orleans and was scheduled to make stops in Houston, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, New York and Miami.
John previously said he was postponing European dates on his world tour until 2023 so that he can have an operation on an injured hip.
The “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour has been a bit longer than anticipated since launching Sept. 8, 2018 at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The vast majority of the massive tour has sold out, moving 2,598,003 tickets and grossing $347,261,803 as reported to date to Pollstar Boxoffice.
With more than a year’s worth of shows pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by a hip injury requiring surgery, it might feel for Sir Elton that the road does go on forever.
In September, the pop icon announced “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” rescheduled North American dates, and those hadn’t been underway a full week when John fell ill. In addition to the rescheduled and again postponed Dallas dates, the Rocket Man has shows remaining on the itinerary in Detroit, New York City, Miami, Toronto and Montreal.
The North American stadium shows are still scheduled to launch July 15, 2022, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. John will also perform at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey; Soldier Field in Chicago; Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta; Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee; and Minute Maid Park in Houston.
The back-to-back performances at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Nov. 19 and 20, 2022 commemorate his iconic performance at the historic venue in October 1975.
