Major Lazer
The group and its production is at home at major festivals such as Lollapalooza and Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival as well as more intimate venues such as the 500-capacity Venue nightclub in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Major Lazer celebrated the mid-April release of its dancehall-influenced Free The Universe on indie label Secretly Canadian by keeping the crowds hopping at this year’s Coachella.
The album, with guest artists Bruno Mars, Tyga, Flux Pavilion, Shaggy, Wyclef, Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend, Dev and more, debuted at No. 1 on the Nielsen SoundScan Dance/ Electronic Albums Chart.
Another boost to Major Lazer’s fan base is that Diplo’s online label, Mad Decent, which produced Baauer’s major hit, “Harlem Shake,” is behind the “Mad Decent Block Parties” tour scheduled for 13 outdoor stops around the U.S. and Canada from mid-July to mid-September.
Major Lazer will spend the summer playing the European festival circuit in addition to the Block Parties dates and a performance at Lollapalooza.
