Tribal Gathering Founder Critical

Friends of Tribal Gathering / Final Frontier founder Paul Shurey are trying to raise money to get him flown back to the UK after a road accident left him in a critical condition April 13.

He is in an intensive care unit in Goa, India, having had two brain surgeries. Shurey now needs to be repatriated back to the UK so that he can receive further operations and care.

“After two operations on his brain he is fighting for recovery. His travel insurance company seem to be dragging their heels over his claim,” explained Simon Congui-Shurey, Paul’s brother. “His family and friends are trying to cover the cost of his ongoing treatment. Any donations would be very gratefully received,” he said.

The first Tribal Gathering took place in 1993 at Luton Hoo and was attended by more than 25,000 people. It was effectively the first legal rave in Britain.

During the next five years, Shurey became established as Britain’s most successful dance music promoter. In addition to his Tribal Gathering events, Paul also popularised underground techno and house music via his Final Frontier parties at the UK’s Wandsworth’s Club.

Former Final Frontier resident DJ Paul Marlow (aka Mr Oz) has urged revellers from the ’90s to contribute to the campaign.

“Paul Shurey, a very dear friend to so many, has found himself in the most dire of situations. After a car crash he is in hospital and in intensive care in India. He is critically ill, the insurance won’t pay out and he needs our help,” he said.
