Gotye got four wins at the ARIA awards Nov. 27 at Sydney Entertainment Centre.
He won best live act, best pop release, best male performer and album of the year for his Making Mirrors.
Other winners included The Temper Trap (best group, best rock album), Kimbra (best female performer), Missy Higgins (best adult contemporary release) and The Wiggles (children).
Indigenous act Yothu Yindi was inducted into the Hall of Fame by Midnight Oil singer-turned cabinet minister Peter Garrett and troubadour Paul Kelly.
The band’s leader, the ailing Manduwuy Yunupingu, received a standing ovation when he used the televised event to ask Australia to support the recognition of indigenous people in the Constitution and in its battle with kidney disease and diabetes.
Earlier, Garrett and Kelly along with Gurrumul, INXS‘s Andrew Farriss and indigenous performers Jessica Mauboy and Dan Sultan joined Yindi in a performance of its hit anthem “Treaty.”
International performers and presenters included Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Good Charlotte and Russell Brand.
