Slane Drops Out
The Irish outdoor season has shrunk even more as Slane Castle owner Lord Henry Mountcharles has announced there will be no concert at the County Meath venue this year.
Lord Henry posted the message on his Slane Castle Facebook page April 19, which also promised that “2013 will be busy.”
The 80,000-capacity estate, which has previously hosted shows by U2, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Guns N’ Roses and Kings Of Leon, was expected to host one concert this year.
Earlier this month, Lord Henry said he had kept “one date open” for one particular act and a source close to Slane Castle told the Irish Times that the date being held was Aug. 25.
This summer the Irish festival season has already been hit by top promoter Denis Desmond’s decision not to stage his Oxegen Festival this year, plus The Stranglers and The Human League pulling out of the Summer Sessions music festival scheduled for Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens over the May bank holiday weekend.
Festival Republic’s Electric Picnic is still scheduled to go ahead at Stradbally House, Co. Laois, Aug. 31 to Sept 2.
The bill includes The Cure, The Killers, Elbow, Patti Smith, Richard Hawley, Grandaddy, and SBTRKT.
