Copenhell Beats Pebbles
Live Nation’s 3-year-old Copenhell Festival is the best event in Copenhagen, according to a readers’ poll in Denmark’s Politiken newspaper.
Copenhell’s 2011 edition, which featured Judas Priest, Korn, Morbid Angel, Kvelertak, and Mayhem, received 41 percent of the votes and a full-page spread in the paper’s cultural section.
LN promoter Jeppe Nissen, who runs the festival, received a plaque at a special ceremony at Politiken’s offices March 14.
Copenhell came out way ahead of last year’s world road-cycling finals, which had 27 percent of the vote.
The third-placed event – with 17 percent of the poll – provided an interesting insight into another way that Copenhagen residents like to enjoy their free time.
It was De Kobenhavnske Smutmesterskaber, a tournament to find who can skim a pebble across the water in Copenhagen harbour the most times.
Apparently all the pebbles are cut to the same size and weight to ensure a fair competition.
This year’s Copenhell (June 16-18) has Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Killswitch Engage, Immortal, Lamb Of God, Anthrax and Trivium.
