Eavis Good For Another 10 Years
Michael Eavis says he may have “another 10 years” left in him as the head of the UK’s Glastonbury Festival.
His daughter Emily was expected to take over the reins in the near future but the plan’s been put on hold because she’s starting a family.
“I was going to step back and let Emily take over, but Emily got married and is having a baby, which is due at the weekend,” he said in a BBC interview June 8.
He said he thrived on the stress of running the 40-year-old festival, which has won Pollstar’s International Festival Of The Year award six of the last seven years.
Glastonbury didn’t take place in 2006 because Eavis, a dairy farmer, likes to let the grounds recover.
“I do need the stress. It’s like a drug to me,” he said. “The more stress I get the better, and it makes me excited, it makes me think hard.”
He said his daughter will continue to do a lot of the festival’s programming, a lot band selection.
“We argue about bands who should be headlining, but she’s the ringleader in band selection and very, very bright,” he explained. “She’s very good at programming and very good at ticking me off. We’re a great working partnership, but she’s not doing so much right now.
“She wants to keep me going as long as I’m willing and able so I’m still leading the field.”
