HotStar: Jessie J
The career of Jessica Ellen Cornish – known internationally as
The Brit singer had her hand in several hits, notably co-writing Miley Cyrus’ platinum-selling “Party in the U.S.A.” along with the unreleased Britney Spears song, “Being Britney,” and songs for Chris Brown. She can also already claim the Critics’ Choice honor at February’s Brit Awards.
Jessie has been performing since she was 11 when she was cast in an Andrew Lloyd Webber production and, at 16, studied at the Brit School, before joining a girl group at 17.
Who Are You has been in the works for six years and she released her first single, “Do It Like a Dude” late last year. Her follow-up, “Price Tag,” featuring B.o.B., launched in February.
Jessie J will certainly tour, but Jason Flom, president and founder of Lava Records, told Pollstar it’s going to take some coordination.
Flom signed Jessie J to the label, and is also known for signing artists like Kid Rock, Katy Perry, Stone Temple Pilots and Tori Amos during his career. Flom noted that the album and the singles are charting across the world.
“That’s obviously a great problem to have but it complicates things for touring here,” he said. “We’ve had to turn down all the opening slots that were offered to us so far. We’re going to have to come up with an answer but right now we’re working around all the international commitments, which are very significant.”
“Price Tag” was a No. 1 single in the U.K., Ireland and New Zealand and Top 10 in 19 other countries.
