Qld. Reviews Lockouts

The Queensland government bowed to pressure from Australian club operators and is looking into the impact 3 a.m. lockouts have on alcohol-related violence.

A parliamentary inquiry was announced last week, along with a look at the impact of other issues, like discount liquor outlets.

When the lockout was announced four years ago, the state government insisted it would be the major deterrent against violence.

But club owners and alcohol measurement agencies like the Drug Arm Centre for Addiction have insisted the lockout is the cause of much aggression, as clubbers are locked out.

The Queensland Hotels Association is also angry, asking why the onus on getting rid of the trouble falls on venue operators.
