Wiesen Nuke Test Goes Well

Harry Jenner says it was a good decision to move Austria’s Nuke Festival from St. Poelten to an 8,000-capacity site at Wiesen, less than 40 miles from Vienna.

Earlier this year Jenner – head of MusicNet – and his Nova Music partner Ewald Tatar looked at their festival portfolio, changing the sites of a couple of them.

Jenner’s already saying the organisers have seen enough to decide Nuke will stay at Wiesen in 2010.

The July 18-19 event attracted about 7,500 fans per day, nearly as many as on the much larger Poelten site. One advantage of Wiesen is the site’s flexibility, which allows it to be reconfigured to add or subtract space according to ticket sales.

The acts on this year’s bill included Moby, Jan Delay, Basement Jaxx, Joss Stone, James Morrison, Keziah Jones, Calexico and A Fine Frenzy.

A few days earlier, Nova Music had staged its Lovely Days on the same site.

The retrospective hippie fest’s July 10 lineup included Ten Years After, Eric Burdon & The Animals, Foreigner, The Australian Pink Floyd Show and Deep Purple.
