A Magical Record

The intimate Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles has passed a milestone, offering $250 VIP tickets for a major upcoming show: magician Ricky Jay.

Close-up magic works best in an intimate setting and pasteboard master Jay was a huge draw on his last visit to the venue’s 96-capacity Audrey Skirball Kenis Theatre.

With the 10 front seats going for $250, the Geffen set a record for under-99-seat theatres in the city, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Geffen spokeswoman Allison Rawlings said the theatre does not anticipate the venue raising any other ticket prices.
