50 Cent Will Play U.K.

Fifty Cent’s decision to pull out of two London awards bashes and a German MTV performance doesn’t look to be connected to him losing a much-publicized chart battle with Kanye West, as his November U.K. arena dates are still on.

Tickets for the November shows went on sale September 22, days after the U.K. papers reported his non-appearance at the Music Of Black Origin ceremony as the reason for many empty seats.

The U.S. rapper vowed to quit writing music as a solo artist if West’s new Graduation album outsold his own latest offering.

West’s first-week sales in the U.S. and U.K. were far ahead of 50 Cent’s Curtis. Many speculated that pulling the September 18-25 European promo trip was a sign that he was sticking to his word and retiring.

Apparently the threat to quit didn’t include playing live, as venues are announcing a string of U.K. dates starting at Dublin’s RDS Simmonscourt November 4.

He’s set to play U.K. arenas November 7-16.

The MOBO ceremony took something of a media bashing, with the Independent going as far as to say it’s "had its day."

Amy Winehouse, who collected the award for best U.K. female, failed to follow up on her much-praised Mercury Music Prize appearance by producing an O2 Arena performance that was widely described as lacklustre.

She also won the equivalent gong at the Vodafone Live Music Awards, which took place at Earls Court on the same night, but she sent the landlord of her local pub to pick up the prize.

The MOBOs and Vodafones may have suffered because they chose September 19, with Winehouse the most obvious example of someone who couldn’t manage to make it to both.

Other MOBO winners included rapper Dizzee Rascal, who was named best male act, while Kanye West and Ne-Yo each won two awards.

Mika took best male act at the Vodafone Awards, while the reunited The Police took the prize for best live return.

Kylie Minogue’s "Showgirl" tour was judged to have been the best production of the year, and Mercury Music Prize winners Klaxons won for best breakthrough act.

The Killers was top live act, while Muse was judged to have had the tour of the year. A lifetime achievement also went to rocker Iggy Pop.
