‘Dimebag’ Estate Settles With Club
The estate of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott has settled its wrongful-death lawsuit against the Columbus, Ohio, club where Abbott was shot and killed in December 2004.
The Abbott family and two band employees agreed to a "nominal settlement," attorney Rebecca Price, representing the Alrosa Villa nightclub, told the Columbus Dispatch. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Nathan Gale shot Abbott onstage after jumping a fence surrounding the venue and entering the club. He also killed a crewmember of Damageplan – the band Abbott played guitar in after Pantera broke up – along with a security guard and an audience member. The band’s manager and a tech were wounded before a police officer entered the club and shot Gale.
"What happened here on December 8, 2004, was a tragedy for everyone and our hearts go out to the victims and their families," club manager Rick Cautela said in a statement Price issued to the paper. "There is nothing we could have done to stop it."
