Buckingham Pulls Plug Over Sound
Lindsey Buckingham and staff at the Rococo Theatre offer differing versions of what happened before a scheduled show at the Lincoln, Neb., venue April 11th, but the result is the same: The show was canceled about an hour before doors were to open.
According to a message on Buckingham’s Web site, "technical difficulties related to sound" were blamed for the cancellation. Buckingham’s message said the theatre refused his request to use his own equipment to supplement its sound system.
However, a message on the Rococo’s Web site counters that the issue was with Buckingham and his sound crew.
"Sound systems and the physical layout of the theatre are well known to the promoters that brought Lindsey to Lincoln, and any misrepresentation was not on the part of the Rococo staff," the statement said.
The dueling Web sites do agree that a problem arose during Buckingham’s sound check.
Generally, promoters and agents are apprised of sound systems and venue acoustics long before a show date.
Rococo Theatre Events Director Pam Gregorios told Pollstar that the theatre provided venue specs during the advance, in line with its standard operating procedure.
But according to the Lincoln Journal Star, "Buckingham’s people" – who were not identified – told the paper that "the sound system in the building was not what was represented to Lindsey’s audio technicians when doing their ‘advance’ on the show."
Buckingham is on the road in support of his latest solo release Under The Skin.
Once the show was canceled, the theatre changed its marquee and notified radio stations. Refunds were available through the box office or Etix.com.
