D’Angelo Released From Hospital
Despite reports from authorities stating that R&B crooner
“D’Angelo is home and doing well,” McMillan said in a statement. “He is anxious to finish the recording of his soul masterpiece that the world has patiently awaited.”
D’Angelo, born Michael Eugene Archer, was in a 2003 Hummer sport utility vehicle when it crossed the roadway and struck a fence, ejecting the singer, Virginia State Police Sgt. Kevin Barrick said. The accident occurred outside Archer’s hometown of Richmond.
Barrick added that Archer was not wearing a seatbelt.
Another occupant, Lynne Sellers, was also injured in the wreck. Police couldn’t say which of the two was driving.
Officials at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, where the Grammy-winning artist was flown after the wreck, said the family had asked his condition not be released.
But McMillan told the Los Angeles Times his client had since been released, having suffered only “bruised ribs, scrapes and other bruises – there’s no casts, no career- or health-threatening injuries.”
At press time, the cause of the crash was under investigation, Barrick said.
In April, the singer was fined $250 and given a 90-day suspended jail term on a driving under the influence of alcohol conviction. His driver’s license was suspended for one year.
On a marijuana charge, Archer was fined $50 and given a 10-day suspended jail term. His driver’s license was suspended for an additional six months.
Earlier this month, he received a suspended prison sentence after being convicted of cocaine possession. Archer had faced three years in prison.
