Stacie George
Pollstar’s Small Venue Talent Buyer of the Year started out booking tiny punk clubs and friends’ bands, but Stacie George has taken her career to new heights including booking some of the Northeast’s most prestigious rooms, and even speaking to the U.N. about Live Nation’s global sustainability goals within the concert industry.
With more than 30 venues in the region to program, George says the diversity and depth of her New York team allows her to choose projects that fit her passions, and those of her colleagues.
“The environment we work in breeds creativity and celebrates diversity, which provides the inspiration to be creative and challenging,” George tells Pollstar. “Right now, I am focused on booking our venues for 2021 and in discussions with acquiring new venues that would fit into our broad portfolio.”
Yes, she said 2021. “We are in an unprecedented time and we do not know just yet when concerts will be back full scale,” George explains. “We have to remain fluid until we have a better understanding on how and when we come back. We all want what is best for the artist, the fans, and the crew.”
As with many in this year’s Impact 50 class, diversity and inclusion are important topics for George.
“The live entertainment business is disproportionately white and male,” she says. “The diversity of artists we promote is not an accurate portrayal of the people behind the scenes and it is something that I have personally struggled with being a woman. I’m glad to see Live Nation make some concrete commitments to improve diversity in these respects and more, and hopefully that will have additional benefits for the industry as a whole.
“Throughout my career, I have made it a priority in choosing to hire and promote women and minorities on my team. It’s not only my responsibility to mentor but to also be a loud advocate when it comes to advancing their career with job opportunities and pay equality. I challenge every executive in power with the capability to do the same. Only way to have change is to be the change.”
