The Shins’ ‘Oh, Inverted World’ Turns 21 With A Party In Vegas And Tour
The Shins announced today their plans to bring their classic 2001 debut album Oh, Inverted World to life in its entirety with a 21st birthday tour, including a one-night-only performance at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas on Friday, July 22 with special guest Joseph.
Tickets for the performance will go on sale to the public on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 10 a.m. PDT.
“James Mercer’s injection of emotional sincerity and melodic ambition redefined the indie rock paradigm at the dawn of the 21st century, and Oh, Inverted World sounds every bit as fresh, honest and expansive as it did then,” according to the announcement.
“Everything was so tongue-in-cheek in the indie world of the ’90s,” Mercer says today. “I remember feeling a longing for some sort of romance in music again, something earnest, like a real attempt at some emotional language.”
Oh, Inverted World was reissued last year in a 20th anniversary edition remastered by Bob Ludwig, and includes among its 11 tracks highlights such as “New Slang,” “Caring Is Creepy,” and “Girl Inform Me.”
The tour marks the first full outing for The Shins since 2016-17, and the second in nearly a decade, aside from several festival plays.
