Chart Scene: Harry Styles Takes Top Rank On Artist Power Index

Harry Styles completes a four-week climb to No. 1 on the Artist Power Index after landing in the second position in the most recent issue, a ranking which followed third and fourth place finishes during the two prior weeks. Altogether, he has appeared seven times on the chart since making his debut in the May 30 issue.

The pop star’s arrival at the top comes on the heels of the first stadium concerts presented on his “Love on Tour,” currently on the road in European markets through the end of July. While the tour’s opening North American leg last fall was staged exclusively in arenas, the ongoing summer stretch through Europe includes both arena and stadium dates.

The 13 performances that propelled Styles to No. 1 this week were set in both venue types. Among them were two-night stadium runs in both London and Manchester as well as single arena shows in Paris, Munich and Amsterdam. The singer’s sole appearance in Ireland on the tour was a June 22 event at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium with 50,486 fans in attendance and a box-office haul of $5.1 million.

Ed Sheeran returns to No. 1 on LIVE75 for the first time since the June 13 issue when he appeared atop the chart for a third consecutive week. A sold-out run of three performances at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, with a sold-ticket average of 61,830 easily gives the English singer-songwriter the highest ranking.

LIVE75’s second ranking goes to Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe who averaged 36,934 sold tickets per show on “The Stadium Tour,” their co-headlining trek that is on the road this summer booked in North American cities. With box-office results reported from 11 of the first 12 stadiums on the tour, the overall gross tops $54 million from 406,274 sold seats. The tour, which also features Poison and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts on the bill, holds “Hot Shot” status as the highest LIVE75 debut of the week.

On the Artist Power Index, the highest debut belongs to Red Hot Chili Peppers at No. 11 among the top 50 performers ranked. With 13 performances on the band’s “2022 Global Stadium Tour” landing during the chart’s eligibility timeframe, headlining dates and festival appearances on the European leg of the tour secure the fourth highest Live rank of the week. Among reported box-office totals is the group’s June 29 outdoor performance at Marlay Park in Dublin with 38,403 fans present. The concert, promoted by MCD Productions, racked up a $3.9 million gross.

Grupo Firme earns LIVE75’S “Heavy Hitter” status, highlighting the act with the largest gross average of the week, based on sales at three North American stadiums. The Tijuana, Mexico-based band kicked off its “Enfiestados y Amanecidos” tour, produced by Music VIP Entertainment, with a two-show engagement at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, May 28-29. The venue moved 79,261 tickets at both performances for a combined gross topping $13 million. Subsequent tour dates included single concerts at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., and Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., which both counted for this week’s chart eligibility. The gross from all four shows was $20.5 million with a total ticket tally of 134,062.

Nigerian artist Tiwa Savage is classified as the “Breakthrough” artist on LIVE75 with a 100% sellout average at 12 performances reported during recent weeks. Touring in theaters and clubs in the U.S. and Canada, she averaged 1,050 tickets per show.
