Afro Nation Portugal Transports Main Stage To Ghana
Afro Nation Portugal – which debuted in 2019 and had to wait three years to finally return to Portimão, Portugal – attracted 35,000 fans per day during its 2022 edition, held July 1-3.
Guests travelled from 134 countries to see headliners Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido perform on Afro Nation’s brand new main stage. Last year’s main stage became this year’s second stage, called Piano People and hosting Amapiano DJ.
The new main stage will also feature at Afro Nation Ghana, which debuted the same year as the Portuguese edition, and will return to Marine Drive, Black Star Square, in the west African capital of Ghana, Dec. 29-30.
“A stage of this quality doesn’t exist anywhere else in West Africa,” promoters Event Horizon stated in a press release. The move will serve “as a vital building block for the live industry on the continent,” as it will be used by other artists and events while on site.
Afro Nation also initiated a training program, where a full stage crew will travel from Europe to Ghana and train a local crew on how to build and run the stage. The goal is to have this world-class festival stage fully operated by the West African team by 2025.
“Afro Nation’s aim has always been to elevate the scene and artists from or inspired by the modern sounds of Africa, and by establishing this stage in Ghana and bringing the exact same high production value from Portugal to West Africa, is just one step towards a bright new future of live events in the region,” according to the promoter’s statement.
Afro Nation also debuted in Puerto Rico earlier this year. “After just four shows we have seen over 150 live performances in front of over 100,000 people across three different continents, Africa, Europe and America,” promoters summed up the festival’s success to date.
