Depeche Mode Announces First Tour In Five Years

Depeche Mode is hitting the road for the first time in five years with the announcement of the “Memento Mori World Tour” kicking off on March 23 at Sacramento, California’s Golden 1 Center.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers are set to release their 15th studio album, Memento Mori, in the spring of 2023 via Columbia Records. With their new album, the band will be touring across North America and hitting cities like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Toronto and more, wrapping up at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on April 14.

From there, the band will head off to Europe for the next leg of their tour kicking off in Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome on May 16. The band will then make stops in major cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Dublin, London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Milan and more before wrapping up in Oslo, Norway at Telenor Arena on Aug. 11.

“We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that. After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning,” Martin Gore said of the album in a statement about keyboard player and Depeche Mode founding member Andy “Fletch” Fletcher, who died in May at age 60.

Dave Gahan added, “Fletch would’ve loved this album. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you at live shows next year.”

The last time Depeche Mode embarked on tour was in 2017, with their “Global Sprint Tour.” The trek wound up being the band’s longest to date, and landed at No. 20 in Pollstar‘s Year-End Top 100 Worldwide Tours Chart for 2018 with a total of 871,375 tickets sold. The year before, in 2017, Depeche Mode ranked No. 6 with more than one million tickets sold.

Highlights from their last run included grosses over $4 million in La Plata, Argentina and Santiago, Chile. Over the course of two shows in Mexico City, Depeche Mode ranked in $7.4 million, according to reports submitted to Pollstar‘s Boxoffice.
