Lollapalooza Berlin Recognized For Sustainability Efforts
Lollapalooza Berlin is the first festival in Germany to be awarded sustainability accreditation according to international standards (DIN ISO 20121 certification), according to promoter Live Nation.
Sustainability has always been “an integral part of the festival’s DNA,” the promoter states. The German Lollapalooza launched in Berlin in 2015.
Following the 2022 edition, promoters implemented more than one hundred sustainability measures, and got audited by Berlin-based independent test centre GUTcert.
The ISO 20121 certification for Lollapalooza Berlin covers “all three pillars of sustainability: environmental protection, social impacts, and economic components,” according the information available on GUTcert’s website.
The certificate is internationally recognized, “and credible proof when communicating the sustainable orientation of an organizer with clients and the general public.”
The teams working on Lollapalooza are acutely aware of the festival’s environmental impact, and are constantly looking at ways to mitigate by tweaking transportation, energy, waste, water, f&b, and more.
Thinking Ahead: Live’s Sustainability Executives Weigh In On Our Future
“In order to prioritize the sustainability of the festival holistically and even stronger, the Lollapalooza Berlin team successfully implemented the DIN ISO 20121 certification process within a year,” said Andre Lieberberg, managing director, Live Nation GSA, “We are very delighted about this and will of course continue to fully support the transformation process.”
According to the press release from Live Nation, “further audits will take place regularly until 2025, with the sustainability measures further developed and adapted to current standards. With the certification, Lollapalooza will create incentives for sustainable action for visitors, service providers and partners.”
The certification for Lollapalooza Berlin underpins Live Nation’s commitment to sustainability, and serves as proof that the live entertainment giant takes its Green Nation charta seriously.
Lollapalooza Berlin returns to Berlin’s Olympic Stadium and Olympic Park, Sept.9-10, with a lineup led by Mumford & Sons, David Guetta, Ava Max, Imagine Dragons, Macklemore, Jason Derulo, and many more.
