Ms. Lauryn Hill Celebrates 25 Years Of ‘The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill’
In 1998, Ms. Lauryn Hill released her acclaimed solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and to mark the LP’s 25th anniversary, she will be setting out on a 17 date tour stopping in arenas across the globe.
The upcoming trek kicks off on Sept. 8 at Mystic Lake in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Fugees promise to reunite for dates in the United States, and shows across Australia and North America have already been announced.
“The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is and was a love song to my parents, my family, my people, my musical and cultural forebears, my teachers, my loves, my Creator,” Ms. Lauryn Hill said in a statement. “I wrote love songs and protest songs — (still love songs) about the subjects and interests that inspired and moved me. I was confident that what inspired me would resonate with an audience that had been led to believe that songs of that kind could only live in the past. I loved music, I loved people, I truly felt grateful to God for my life, and genuinely blessed to have a platform where I could share wisdom and perspective through music. I felt a charge to challenge the idea that certain kinds of expression and/or certain kinds of people didn’t belong in certain places. I loved showing what could work or happen if there was imagination, creativity and love leading the way.”
Fugees, who had initially announced a reunion tour in 2021 that was continually postponed due to the pandemic, will be joining Ms. Lauryn Hill and opening throughout the North American dates, starting off in Newark, New Jersey at Prudential Center on Oct. 17 and making appearances in Brooklyn, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, Oakland, California and more before wrapping up the tour at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena on Nov. 9.
Ahead of the North American dates, Ms. Lauryn Hill will appear at Global Citizen Live in New York City on Sept. 23, then she’ll head over to Australia and New Zealand for a string of dates across the continent. her Australian dates kick off on Oct. 1, wrapping up in Auckland, New Zealand on Oct. 7.
She has made numerous festival appearances throughout the summer celebrating both the 25th anniversary of her seminal album, as well as hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. On June 3, Ms. Lauryn Hill headlined The Roots Picnic, where The Fugees surprised fans by reuniting for the first time since 2021.
Tickets for the tour go on sale starting Aug. 25 at 10 a.m. local time. Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets starting Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. local time until Aug. 24 at 10 p.m. local time.
