Steven Tyler’s Vocal Injury Forces Aerosmith To Postpone Tour To 2024

After Aerosmith postponed six shows a few weeks ago because Steven Tyler had suffered vocal cord damage, the band has now pushed back all currently scheduled performances on the “Peace Out: The Farewell Tour” trek “to sometime in 2024.”

The initial postponement announcement, which was unveiled on Sept. 11, noted that Tyler had received strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next 30 days because he had sustained vocal cord damage during Aerosmith’s Sept. 9 show at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, that “led to subsequent bleeding.” Performances in Detroit; Chicago; Washington, D.C.; Toronto; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Cleveland were rescheduled for January and February. 

Now the band explains that Tyler’s “vocal injury is more serious than initially thought.” The statement posted on Facebook goes on to say, “His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care. He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential. As a result, all the currently scheduled PEACE OUT shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more.”

Tyler shared his own statement, saying, “I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!” 

The band adds, “All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates, and refunds will be available for those unable to attend once those dates are announced. Fans with questions regarding refunds should reach out to their point of purchase.”

The 40-date tour launched Sept. 2 at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center and only got to play three shows before it came to a halt. 

Aerosmith is managed by 724 Management and booked by CAA (North America, Mexico and South America) and International Talent Booking (the rest of the world). 

The most recent reports submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice for the band include four shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM Las Vegas in November 2022 that sold a total of 21,296 tickets and grossed $4,684,280. Aerosmith ranked No. 31 on the “Top Touring Artists of the Pollstar Era” chart, based on boxoffice grosses submitted between July 7, 1980, and July 1, 2022, with $603 million grossed and 13,336,974 tickets sold.
