Chart Scene: Offset Debuts On Artist Power Index With First Solo Headlining Tour
In his first-ever appearance on the Artist Power Index, rapper Offset makes his debut on the chart at No. 29 following the launch of his first headlining tour as a solo artist. The former member of the now-disbanded hip-hop trio Migos performed on March 10 at The Fillmore in Philadelphia to kick off the tour in support of his second studio album Set It Off that was released last October.
The Georgia-born artist is set to play theaters and clubs in North American cities through April 10, wrapping in the U.S. with a hometown performance at Atlanta’s Coca-Cola Roxy. Special guests on the tour are Skilla Baby, SleazyWorld Go and YRN Mango Foo. Looking ahead to the summer, Offset is planning to take the “Set It Off Tour” to Europe for a string of headlining dates and festival appearances in July.
Along with Offset, Nickelback also debuts on the Artist Power Index in this issue, based primarily on the band’s March 13 performance at Houston’s NRG Stadium as part of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Ticket sales for the concert reached 75,036 which was the third-highest attendance total recorded at the rodeo this year. Jonas Brothers, No. 38 on APX, drew the largest crowd of 75,600, while Los Tigres del Norte performed for 75,595 fans.
The top debut on LIVE75 belongs to Karol G in her first appearance on the chart this year. She earns the No. 1 ranking on the strength of ticket sales from nine sold-out concerts at five stadiums on the Latin American leg of her “Mañana Será Bonito Tour.” With sellouts at all nine shows, her overall number of sold tickets totaled 275,707 at an average of 30,634 per show.
The Colombian singer’s top gross among these recent dates comes from a two-night engagement at Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica, March 9-10. With more than $8.8 million in earnings, the 104,761 ticket total at the stadium is her highest reported at any of the five venues. Her second-best gross was an $8 million haul from two concerts at Estadio 3 de Marzo in Zapopan, Mexico, where she sold 50,804 tickets on back-to-back nights in late February. Then, two shows in Monterrey, Mexico; two in Guatemala City and a single concert in San Salvador add $14.6 million to her gross total this week.
Karol G’s ticket count at Monterrey’s Estadio Mobil Super totaled 52,643 which was the second-highest number of tickets behind the San José stadium date. Then, her ticket count in Zapopan was the third best of the week. In Guatemala, she performed for 38,610 fans and 28,889 more in El Salvador.
LIVE75’s “Noisemaker” status, awarded to the touring artist with the best upward movement on the chart compared to the previous week, goes to singer/actor Michael Cavanaugh who starred on Broadway in the jukebox musical “Movin’ Out” in 2002. He jumps 14 positions on the chart this week based on a three-show ticket average of 1,766 from theater concerts in Hershey, Pennsylvania; Buffalo, New York; and Lake Worth, Florida.
Canadian comedian Sugar Sammy earns LIVE75’s “Breakthrough” tag as the touring artist with the most sold-out shows and the highest sellout percentage. He ranks No. 69 on the chart with an average of 690 tickets sold at 18 performances, 99 percent of which were reported as sellouts. He moved the most tickets at the 845-seat Salle Pierre-Mercure in Montreal with 11,819 sold seats at 14 performances.
