Dubbed “The Concert,” the benefit for the Democratic National Committee takes place September 14 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Also set to perform are Sheryl Crow, Jon Bon Jovi, Lenny Kravitz and Macy Gray, with more acts to be announced soon.

Entertainment industry big shots Harvey Weinstein (Miramax), Jann Wenner (Rolling Stone) and John Sykes (VH1) made the announcement, the latest in a plethora of political fundraisers typical of election years. Weinstein, incidentally, started his career as a concert promoter in Buffalo, N.Y. (Harvey & Corky Presents) before his transformation into a movie mogul.

“The importance of electing Al Gore inspired me to make one last return to the concert production business,” Weinstein said.

With the presidential election just three months away, the DNC is geared to raising moolah for Gore’s run for the job.

“This is an endorsement of Al Gore by artists who clearly stand for definite social and political values,” said Wenner, though Buffett is somewhat less adamant about that.

“I just like participating in democracy,” Buffett said. “That might sound corny to people, but I think I’m lucky to be included in things like this that might make people’s lives better.”

Ticket information will be available soon at the DNC’s Web site.
