A Hollywood branch, complete with cybercasting capabilites and a video link-up with the mother ship in NYC, is set to open August 11 with an acoustic show by The Posies.

The Hollywood version will feature the same eclectic atmosphere incorporating performance space, theatre and club elements the original is known for.

“We have been dreaming of a West Coast version of the venue for a long time and the Los Angeles musical community seems very eager to welcome us. We will program the space with a combination of great local artists, national talent and New York-based jazz and new music,” said owner/founder Michael Dorf.

More expansion is also part of the Knitting Factory’s future.

The next project is a Knitting Factory in Berlin. Once opened, it – like the New York and Hollywood venues – will be wired for cybercasting of shows and an “always on” video link to allow bar patrons to have a “virtual drink” with others half a world away.

Knitting Factory Hollywood will feature national and local acts in two rooms: The Main Stage and the AlterKnit Lounge.

Besides the Posies, August will see visits from Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Custom Made Scare, ex-Throwing Muse Kristen Hersh, and folk legend Odetta.
