Allman, a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, says they helped him overcome his addictions to drugs, alcohol and cigarettes.

“Stacey is one special person,” Allman said, after the concert. “She stood by me through sobering up. We stopped smoking together. I’ve been married a few times before, but those relationships were nothing like this.”

Allman, 52, said he battles addiction demons every day.

“Been sober four years. First year was hard, but not now,” he said. “Cigarettes, you have to go moment to moment with those. But what you have to remember is the urge will leave you just as quick as it comes.”

An estimated 4,200 fans donated a minimum of $10 each at the concert. The money was to be used to pay the hospital bills of Allman’s fiancee’s father.
