The concerts were scheduled to take place November 18 and 19 at the 9,500-seat Auditorio Nacional, but the shows were canceled on the 17th. A representative for the 18-year-old Grammy winner said she had sought medical attention for a throat infection while in Mexico City.

A record company rep said Aguilera required “complete rest,” and that the infection “has made it impossible for her to perform. The doctors have strictly prohibited her from engaging in any activities so that her health is not put at risk.”

The teen diva has since returned to the U.S. Her next concert is set for November 22 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She’s scheduled to perform at a string of radio shows beginning December 10.

Aguilera was troubled by throat ailments through much of her lengthy summer and fall tour, resulting in the cancellation of several dates.
