The Promise Ring Keeps One
The Promise Ring has announced a string of West Coast dates to make up for the ones the indie rockers missed when they pulled out of last fall’s Bad Religion caravan.
It’s good news not just for the fans, but the band as well. Lead singer Davey vonBohlen had a benign brain tumor removed the previous May, but both the Bad Religion and a European tour fell by the wayside while he recovered.
The California swing will kick off February 8 at the Glass House in Pomona, with Death Cab For Cutie opening. Then they’ll move up the coast to Los Angeles, Santa Cruz and San Francisco.
After finishing up those dates, they’ll move to the Midwest for four additional dates, winding down February 18 at the Empty Bottle in Chicago.
The Promise Ring’s most recent album, the serendipitously titled Very Emergency, was released in the fall of 1999 – several months before vonBohlen’s emergency brain surgery.
