U2 Return To Dublin
Slane Castle outside Dublin, Ireland, will be the site of a U2 homecoming. The native sons return to the landmark for the first time in 20 years to headline a one-day outdoor festival there August 25.
The show will mark the 20th anniversary of U2’s only previous appearance at the castle, when they supported Thin Lizzy.
In addition, it marks the band’s first performance in Ireland – other than September’s Clarence Hotel rooftop publicity stunt in Dublin – since their PopMart concerts at Landsdowne Road in August 1997.
Also scheduled to appear on the festival bill are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, and Kellis, and Irish acts JJ72 and Relish.
“We’ve waited a long time to do this,” said drummer Larry Mullen. “It’s going to be a beautiful day,” he added, playing off the title of the band’s Grammy-winning single.
