English pop chanteuse Dido was virtually unknown in the U.S. a year ago but skyrocketed to fame when the bad boy rapper sampled her tune “Thank You” for his hit single “Stan.”

Now she’s getting ready to mount her first headlining tour of North American amphitheatres, launching June 10 in Vancouver with countrymen Travis.

They will trek the full summer shed circuit, including the Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Boston, Toronto and Minneapolis markets. Dido also makes a solo club appearance June 18 at The Joint in Las Vegas.

Never mind that her debut album, No Angel, was released way back in 1999. The added exposure that the Eminem collaboration afforded was enough to finally send the disc up the charts almost two years later.

Her success shows that dedication to the craft still means something. Somewhat of a musical child prodigy, Dido was enrolled in the Guildhall School of Music in London at age 6, and playing piano, violin and recorder by the time she was 10.

She discovered Ella Fitzgerald and jazz at 16, and began applying her musical training to singing with various bands in and around London. Her brother Rollo brought her in to sing with his band Faithless, and in 1997 two of her contributions caught the attention of then-Arista chief Clive Davis.

As they say, the rest is history.
