The original riot-grrl has been stomping the boards lately on Broadway as Columbia – the tap-dancing girlfriend of doomed biker Eddie – in a production of the “The Rocky Horror Show.”

While her contract to continue in the role is reportedly in renegotiation, she’s taking to the road with her old bandmates.

The outing kicks off April 21 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, N.J. The band takes a swing through California in May, then heads on to St. Louis and points east.

The resilient rocker’s career has taken its share of turns over the years – from her early days as a founder of the Runaways, to forming the Blackhearts for a string of hits during the 1980s, to her incarnation as a Broadway star.

But Jett’s stature as a woman ready to rumble with the men of rock is still secure, as evidenced by numerous Web sites hosted by a new generation of female fans.

One markets a line of T-shirts emblazoned with Jett’s visage and the slogan W.W.J.J.D.? In apparent reference to the currently in-vogue and very male aggro-rock genre, the sales pitch says, “Hey little grrl, don’t take any crap from that Limp Bizkit goon! Just ask yourself one question: What would JOAN JETT do?”

If her career is any indication, it’s anything she damn well pleases.
