Paul Simon, Brian Wilson Announce Tour
There are 23 cities on the itinerary so far and there’s no word on when the last few dates will be announced.
Simon is bringing along his 11-piece band and will perform material spanning his career. Wilson – who arranged, produced and co-wrote the Beach Boys’ influential and enduring string of hits – will be accompanied by his 10-piece outfit, which includes the four-member group The Wondermints.
2001 has been good to both artists. Simon’s You’re The One received a Grammy nomination for album of the year and he was inducted as a solo artist into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. He was also named the Musicares (a recording industry charity) 200l Person of the Year and Wilson performed “The Sounds of Silence” during the ceremony.
Simon returned the favor with a loving rendition of “Surfer Girl” at the All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson which took place March 29 at Radio City Music Hall.
Simon invited Wilson to join him on tour after they exchanged honors at the Musicares and Brian Wilson tributes. The events gave them an opportunity to develop a strong rapport. While each man has obvious affection for the other’s music, they have no plans to duet during the tour.
