Charlatans UK Head Stateside
The shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and New York are likely to whet appetites for a bigger tour later this year. The album is set for a September release, less than a month after the Manchester group concludes its U.K. rock festival appearances.
The Charlatans UK toured North America last spring with Stereophonics and sold out just about every show. They haven’t fared too badly in the home country either; three of their albums hit the No. 1 spot on the album charts and there’s a healthy early buzz on Wonderland.
Often lumped in with fellow Mancunians like Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, The Charlatans UK have always maintained a distinct sound. The Rolling Stones’ influence on the band is obvious but the group also has an ear for dance music, and the new material is reportedly very groove friendly.
That makes sense, considering singer Tim Burgess is a longtime dance culture afficionado and has been seen showing off his turntable skills as DJ on the LA club scene.
